Everything started back in grade 7. I was very skinny and underweight which made me want to grow and become bigger. At that time, I wanted to start going to the gym but I couldn’t because I wasn’t old enough, and so I had to wait until I was 14. That didn’t stop me from not working out. I decided to start bodyweight workouts until I was able to go the gym. I started doing pull ups, dips and pushups. At the time, I wasn’t really familiar with “street workout” except pull ups, dips and pushups.

After a year, I was finally 14 years old, which meant that I was eligible to sign up for the gym. One of processes of signing up for the gym was to go to a doctor to get a permission from him, but the doctor did not want to give me this permission. He said that due to a spinal growth problem, I will not be able to go to the gym.

At first this was so hard to accept because all I wanted was to finally grow and built and achieve my dream body. It really hit me hard and got me depressed for a while. But then I realized that not everything is bad and that there has to be a way out of this. So I decided that I’m sticking with bodyweight training. I told myself that I will achieve what I want no matter what. Nothing Is going to stop me! In grade 8 I moved to a different school and always saw kids doing different kind of elements and moves on the pull up bars that I wasn’t really familiar with. I only knew what was a muscle up. I came up to them one day, asked different questions regarding to what they were doing and told me that they were performing different kind of moves from a sport that came originally from Russia by the name of “street workout”. From there, I started joining them and trying moves by myself but wasn’t really consistent with it. After a year, in grade 9, I signed up for MMA classes with the goal of getting stronger and bigger while also combining bodyweight workout here and there.

In grade 10, I got more into “street workout” and into the community and slowly started to understand the amount of love I have for this sport. I got more interested in the sport, started researching information on the internet, going to more community meetups and working out more often. After 6 months, at the second half of grade 10 coronavirus had kicked in and I decided to leave the MMA classes and focus more on street workout and try to commit fully into this sport. I went on a regular basis to a park in Reshon, to the pull bars in Bugrashov, Tel aviv here and there, and even worked out at home when I had no other choice. From there I understood that this is something that I want to focus on for my whole life and so decided to join Barthletics to make a living out of this sport.

When I joined the army, I understood that I do not regret even a bit of what happened to me with the doctor not giving me the permission to join the gym. I met a lot of new people, gained knowledge, my self-confidence and social skills increased and the most important, I managed to achieve my goal and change my body. From being a skinny and underweighted kid, I managed to get to a point where I am lean, with a body that I always wanted!
